The National Theatre of China

Broadening our horizons...

Actors Training were asked to provide a specialist 4 week Physical Theatre training programme for the actors of the Chinese National Theatre in Beijing. The course was to incorporate elements of training in the styles of Le Coq, Complicite and Commedia Dell’arte that could be utilised by the Theatres Actors ahead of their production of Warhorse and in further up and coming productions in Beijing. We provided them with 6 highly skilled Physical Theatre practitioners and directors to work with 20 actors over a 4 week period on location in China. After 2 weeks of intensive training the actors started work with our directors on applying their skills to a specially selected group of scenes to culminate in a presentation for the heads of the Theatre. We also supplied the theatre with assessments of the actors abilities and gave suggestions as to where the actors would be best utilised. There was a huge amount of interest in our appearance from the countries leading drama professors and national press. The trip was as huge success and we have been asked back to supply further training.

The Canterbury Institute of Performing Arts

A unique and dramatic relationship...

Actors Training were approached by The Canterbury Academy to design and facilitate an ongoing Industry appropriate acting programme for 16-18 yr olds, also known as a ‘Free School’. We designed a course that included training elements relevant for the industry today and to that course we attached the appropriate BTEC modules so the students receive a level 3 BTEC in performing Arts. We supply The Canterbury Academy with 8 industry professional practitioners and directors a year that work 2 days a week side by side with the excellent teaching staff already at Canterbury. Together we have build a high achieving acting programme with many students gaining professional experience via our industry contacts with students having worked on projects such as the Les Miserable film, Kick Ass 2, Call the Midwife and the BBC’s Casualty to name a few. The Acting Programme also boasts one of the highest acceptance rates into higher drama education in the country e.g Drama Schools. Actors Training plays a key role in not only the training process but also the recruitment of students and the overall design of the brand (including logo and web design). The Performing Arts wing of the Canterbury Academy is now called The Canterbury Institute of Performing Arts and is now seen as the ‘go-to’ Institute in Kent for the serious Young performer.
